Romans 9
1[The] truthἈλήθειανI speakλέγωinἐνChristΧριστῷ,NotοὐI am lyingψεύδομαι,bearing witness withσυμμαρτυρούσηςmeμοιtheτῆςconscienceσυνειδήσεώςof meμουin [the]ἐνSpiritπνεύματιHolyἁγίῳ,
2thatὅτιgriefλύπηto meμοίisἐστινgreatμεγάληandκαὶunceasingἀδιάλειπτοςsorrowὀδύνηin theτῇheartκαρδίᾳof meμου·
3Could wishηὐχόμηνforγὰρa curseἀνάθεμαto beεἶναιmyselfαὐτὸςIἐγὼseparated fromἀπὸτοῦChristΧριστοῦforὑπὲρtheτῶνbrothersἀδελφῶνof meμουτῶνkinsmenσυγγενῶνof meμουaccording toκατὰ[the] fleshσάρκα,
4whoοἵτινέςareεἰσινIsraelitesἸσραηλῖται,whose [is]ὧνtheἡdivine adoption as sonsυἱοθεσίαandκαὶtheἡgloryδόξαandκαὶtheαἱcovenantsδιαθῆκαιandκαὶtheἡlawgivingνομοθεσίαandκαὶtheἡserviceλατρείαandκαὶtheαἱpromisesἐπαγγελίαι,
5whose [are]ὧνtheοἱpatriarchsπατέρες,andκαὶfromἐξwhom [is]ὧνὁChristχριστὸςτὸaccording toκατὰthe fleshσάρκα,ὁbeingὢνoverἐπὶallπάντων,Godθεὸςblessedεὐλογητὸςtoεἰςtheτοὺςagesαἰῶνας·Amenἀμήν.
6[It is] notΟὐχasοἷονhoweverδὲthatὅτιhas failedἐκπέπτωκενtheὁwordλόγοςτοῦof Godθεοῦ.Notοὐforγὰρallπάντεςwho [are]οἱofἐξIsraelἸσραήλ,[are] theseοὗτοιIsraelἸσραήλ·
7Norοὐδ’becauseὅτιthey areεἰσὶνseedσπέρμαof AbrahamἈβραάμ,[are] allπάντεςchildrenτέκνα,ratherἀλλ’·InἘνIsaacἸσαὰκwill be namedκληθήσεταίto youσοιoffspringσπέρμα.
8Thatτοῦτ’isἔστιν,notοὐtheτὰchildrenτέκναof theτῆςfleshσαρκὸςthese [are]ταῦταchildrenτέκνατοῦof Godθεοῦ,butἀλλὰtheτὰchildrenτέκναof theτῆςpromiseἐπαγγελίαςare regardedλογίζεταιasεἰςoffspringσπέρμα·
9Of [the] promiseἐπαγγελίαςforγὰρtheὁwordλόγος[is] thisοὗτος·AtΚατὰtheτὸνtimeκαιρὸνthisτοῦτονI will comeἐλεύσομαιandκαὶthere will beἔσταιτῇto SarahΣάρρᾳa sonυἱός.
10Notοὐonlyμόνονthenδέ,butἀλλὰalsoκαὶRebeccaῬεβέκκαbyἐξoneἑνὸςconceptionκοίτηνhavingἔχουσα,IsaacἸσαὰκtheτοῦfatherπατρὸςof usἡμῶν·
11not yetμήπωforγὰρhaving been bornγεννηθέντωνnorμηδὲhaving doneπραξάντωνanythingτιgoodἀγαθὸνorἢevilφαῦλον,so thatἵναtheἡaccording toκατ’electionἐκλογὴνpurposeπρόθεσιςτοῦof Godθεοῦmight standμένῃ,
12notοὐκofἐξworksἔργωνbutἀλλ’ofἐκthe [One]τοῦcallingκαλοῦντος,it was saidἐρρέθηto herαὐτῇὅτιTheὉolderμείζωνwill serveδουλεύσειtheτῷyoungerἐλάσσονι·
13asκαθὼςit has been writtenγέγραπται·ΤὸνJacobἸακὼβI lovedἠγάπησα,τὸνbutδὲEsauἨσαῦI hatedἐμίσησα.
14WhatΤίthenοὖνshall we sayἐροῦμεν;NotμὴinjusticeἀδικίαwithπαρὰτῷGod [is there]θεῷ;Neverμὴmay it beγένοιτο·
15ToτῷMosesΜωϋσεῖforγὰρHe saysλέγει·I will show mercy toἘλεήσωwhomὃνἂνI may show mercyἐλεῶ,andκαὶI will have compassion onοἰκτιρήσωwhomὃνἂνI may have compassionοἰκτίρω.
16Soἄραthenοὖν[it is] notοὐof theτοῦwillingθέλοντοςnorοὐδὲof theτοῦrunningτρέχοντοςbutἀλλὰτοῦshowing mercyἐλεῶντοςof Godθεοῦ.
17SaysλέγειforγὰρtheἡScriptureγραφὴtoτῷPharaohΦαραὼὅτιForΕἰςthis veryαὐτὸthereforeτοῦτοI have raised upἐξήγειράyouσεso thatὅπωςI might showἐνδείξωμαιinἐνyouσοὶtheτὴνpowerδύναμίνof Meμου,andκαὶthatὅπωςshould be declaredδιαγγελῇtheτὸnameὄνομάof Meμουinἐνallπάσῃtheτῇearthγῇ.
18Soἄραthenοὖνto whomὃνHe wantsθέλειHe shows mercyἐλεεῖ,whomὃνnowδὲHe wantsθέλειHe hardensσκληρύνει.
19You will sayἘρεῖςto meμοιthenοὖν·WhyΤίthenοὖνstillἔτιdoes He find faultμέμφεται;Theτῷforγὰρpurposeβουλήματιof Himαὐτοῦwhoτίςis resistingἀνθέστηκεν;
20Oὦmanἄνθρωπε,but ratherμενοῦνγεyouσὺwhoτίςareεἶὁanswering againstἀνταποκρινόμενοςτῷGodθεῷ;Notμὴwill sayἐρεῖtheτὸthing formedπλάσμαto the [One]τῷhaving formed [it]πλάσαντιWhyΤίmeμεhave you madeἐποίησαςlike thisοὕτως;
21Orἢnotοὐκhasἔχειauthorityἐξουσίανtheὁpotterκεραμεὺςover theτοῦclayπηλοῦout ofἐκtheτοῦsameαὐτοῦlumpφυράματοςto makeποιῆσαιoneὃindeedμὲνuntoεἰςhonorτιμὴνvesselσκεῦοςoneὃhoweverδὲuntoεἰςdishonorἀτιμίαν;
22What ifεἰnowδὲdesiringθέλωνὁGodθεὸςto showἐνδείξασθαιtheτὴνwrathὀργὴνandκαὶto make knownγνωρίσαιtheτὸpowerδυνατὸνof Himαὐτοῦboreἤνεγκενwithἐνmuchπολλῇpatienceμακροθυμίᾳ[the] vesselsσκεύηof wrathὀργῆςhaving been fittedκατηρτισμέναforεἰςdestructionἀπώλειαν,
23alsoκαὶthatἵναHe might make knownγνωρίσῃtheτὸνrichesπλοῦτονof theτῆςgloryδόξηςof Himαὐτοῦuponἐπὶ[the] vesselsσκεύηof mercyἐλέους,whichἃHe prepared beforehandπροητοίμασενforεἰςgloryδόξαν,
24whomοὓςevenκαὶHe has calledἐκάλεσενusἡμᾶςnotοὐonlyμόνονout fromἐξ[the] JewsἸουδαίωνbutἀλλὰalsoκαὶout fromἐξ[the] Gentilesἐθνῶν;—
25AsὡςalsoκαὶinἐντῷHoseaὩσηὲHe saysλέγει·I will callΚαλέσωthat which [is]τὸνnotοὐpeopleλαόνof Meμουpeopleλαόνof Meμουandκαὶherτὴνnotοὐκhaving been lovedἠγαπημένηνhaving been lovedἠγαπημένην·
26andκαὶIt will happen thatἔσταιinἐνtheτῷplaceτόπῳwhereοὗit was saidἐρρέθηto themαὐτοῖς·NotΟὐpeopleλαόςMy [are]μουYouὑμεῖς,thereἐκεῖthey will be calledκληθήσονταιsonsυἱοὶof Godθεοῦ[the] livingζῶντος.
27IsaiahἨσαΐαςalsoδὲcries outκράζειconcerningὑπὲρτοῦIsraelἸσραήλ·ThoughἘὰνshall beᾖtheὁnumberἀριθμὸςof theτῶνsonsυἱῶνof IsraelἸσραὴλasὡςtheἡsandἄμμοςof theτῆςseaθαλάσσης,[only] theτὸremnantὑπόλειμμαwill be savedσωθήσεται·
28[The] sentenceλόγονforγὰρconcludingσυντελῶνandκαὶbringing swiftlyσυντέμνωνwill perform [the]ποιήσειLordκύριοςuponἐπὶtheτῆςearthγῆς.
29AndκαὶasκαθὼςforetoldπροείρηκενIsaiahἨσαΐας·IfΕἰnotμὴ[the] Lordκύριοςof HostsΣαβαὼθhad leftἐγκατέλιπενusἡμῖνdescendantsσπέρμα,likeὡςSodomΣόδομαἂνwe would have becomeἐγενήθημενandκαὶlikeὡςGomorrahΓόμορραἂνwe would have been madeὡμοιώθημεν.
30WhatΤίthenοὖνwill we sayἐροῦμεν;ThatὅτιGentilesἔθνητὰnotμὴpursuingδιώκονταrighteousnessδικαιοσύνηνhave attainedκατέλαβενrighteousnessδικαιοσύνην,righteousnessδικαιοσύνηνnowδὲthat [is]τὴνbyἐκfaithπίστεως·
31IsraelἸσραὴλhoweverδὲpursuingδιώκωνa lawνόμονof righteousnessδικαιοσύνηςtoεἰς[that] lawνόμονnotοὐκdid attainἔφθασεν.
32Because ofδιὰwhyτί;Because [it was]ὅτιnotοὐκbyἐκfaithπίστεωςbutἀλλ’asὡςbyἐξworksἔργων·They stumbledπροσέκοψανover theτῷstoneλίθῳτοῦof stumblingπροσκόμματος,
33asκαθὼςit has been writtenγέγραπται·BeholdἸδοὺI layτίθημιinἐνZionΣιὼνa stoneλίθονof stumblingπροσκόμματοςandκαὶa rockπέτρανof offenseσκανδάλου,andκαὶthe [one]ὁbelievingπιστεύωνonἐπ’Himαὐτῷneverοὐwill be put to shameκαταισχυνθήσεται.
