John 16
1These thingsΤαῦταI have spokenλελάληκαto youὑμῖνthatἵναnotμὴyou might fall awayσκανδαλισθῆτε.
2Out of the synagoguesἀποσυναγώγουςthey will putποιήσουσινyouὑμᾶς·butἀλλ’is comingἔρχεταιan hourὥραthatἵναeveryoneπᾶςὁhaving killedἀποκτείναςyouὑμᾶςwill thinkδόξῃ[it is] a serviceλατρείανto offerπροσφέρειντῷto Godθεῷ.
3Andκαὶthese thingsταῦταthey will doποιήσουσινbecauseὅτιnotοὐκthey knowἔγνωσανtheτὸνFatherπατέραnorοὐδὲMeἐμέ.
4Butἀλλὰthese thingsταῦταI have saidλελάληκαto youὑμῖνso thatἵναwhenὅτανmight have comeἔλθῃtheἡhourὥραof themαὐτῶνyou may rememberμνημονεύητεthemαὐτῶνthatὅτιIἐγὼsaid [them]εἶπονto youὑμῖν.These thingsΤαῦταnowδὲto youὑμῖνfromἐξ[the] beginningἀρχῆςnotοὐκI saidεἶπον,becauseὅτιwithμεθ’youὑμῶνI wasἤμην.
5NowνῦνhoweverδὲI goὑπάγωtoπρὸςthe [One]τὸνhaving sentπέμψαντάMeμεandκαὶnoneοὐδεὶςofἐξyouὑμῶνasksἐρωτᾷMeμε·WhereΠοῦare You goingὑπάγεις;
6Butἀλλ’becauseὅτιthese thingsταῦταI have saidλελάληκαto youὑμῖνἡsorrowλύπηhas filledπεπλήρωκενyourὑμῶντὴνheartκαρδίαν.
7Butἀλλ’Iἐγὼtheτὴνtruthἀλήθειανsayλέγωto youὑμῖν,it is profitableσυμφέρειfor youὑμῖνthatἵναIἐγὼshould go awayἀπέλθω.IfἐὰνforγὰρnotμὴI go awayἀπέλθω,theὁHelperπαράκλητοςnoοὐnot at allμὴwill comeἔλθῃtoπρὸςyouὑμᾶς·ifἐὰνhoweverδὲI goπορευθῶ,I will sendπέμψωHimαὐτὸνtoπρὸςyouὑμᾶς.
8Andκαὶhaving comeἐλθὼνHeἐκεῖνοςwill convictἐλέγξειtheτὸνworldκόσμονconcerningπερὶsinἁμαρτίαςandκαὶconcerningπερὶrighteousnessδικαιοσύνηςandκαὶconcerningπερὶjudgmentκρίσεως·
9concerningπερὶsinἁμαρτίαςindeedμέν,becauseὅτιnotοὐdo they believeπιστεύουσινinεἰςMeἐμέ·
10concerningπερὶrighteousnessδικαιοσύνηςnowδέ,becauseὅτιtoπρὸςtheτὸνFatherπατέραI go awayὑπάγωandκαὶno moreοὐκέτιyou beholdθεωρεῖτέMeμε·
11concerningπερὶnowδὲjudgmentκρίσεως,becauseὅτιtheὁrulerἄρχωνof theτοῦworldκόσμουthisτούτουhas been judgedκέκριται.
12YetἜτιmany thingsπολλὰI haveἔχωto youὑμῖνto sayλέγειν,butἀλλ’notοὐyou are ableδύνασθεto bear themβαστάζεινnowἄρτι·
13Whenὅτανhoweverδὲshall comeἔλθῃHeἐκεῖνος,theτὸSpiritπνεῦματῆςof truthἀληθείας,He will guideὁδηγήσειyouὑμᾶςintoἐνtheτῇtruthἀληθείᾳallπάσῃ,notοὐforγὰρHe will speakλαλήσειfromἀφ’Himselfἑαυτοῦ,butἀλλ’whateverὅσαhearsἀκούσειHe will speakλαλήσει,andκαὶthe thingsτὰcomingἐρχόμεναHe will declareἀναγγελεῖto youὑμῖν.
14HeἐκεῖνοςMeἐμὲwill glorifyδοξάσει,forὅτιfromἐκthat which [is]τοῦMineἐμοῦHe will takeλήμψεταιandκαὶwill discloseἀναγγελεῖto youὑμῖν.
15All thingsπάνταwhateverὅσαhasἔχειtheὁFatherπατὴρMineἐμάareἐστιν·because ofδιὰthisτοῦτοI saidεἶπονthatὅτιfromἐκthat which [is]τοῦMineἐμοῦHe will takeλαμβάνειandκαὶwill discloseἀναγγελεῖto youὑμῖν.
16A little [while]Μικρὸνandκαὶno longerοὐκέτιyou do beholdθεωρεῖτέMeμε,andκαὶagainπάλινa little [while]μικρὸνandκαὶyou will seeὄψεσθέMeμε.
17Saidεἶπανthereforeοὖν[some] ofἐκtheτῶνdisciplesμαθητῶνof himαὐτοῦtoπρὸςone anotherἀλλήλους·WhatΤίisἐστινthisτοῦτοthatὃHe saysλέγειto usἡμῖν·A little [while]Μικρὸνandκαὶnotοὐyou do beholdθεωρεῖτέMeμε,andκαὶagainπάλινa little [while]μικρὸνandκαὶyou will seeὄψεσθέMeμε;andκαί·BecauseὍτιI am goingὑπάγωtoπρὸςtheτὸνFatherπατέρα;
18They were sayingἔλεγονthereforeοὖν·whatΤίisἐστινThisτοῦτοthatὃHe saysλέγειlittle [while]μικρόν;Notοὐκwe do knowοἴδαμενwhatτίHe is sayingλαλεῖ.
19KnewἔγνωJesusἸησοῦςthatὅτιthey were desiringἤθελονHimαὐτὸνto askἐρωτᾶν,andκαὶHe saidεἶπενto themαὐτοῖς·ConcerningΠερὶthisτούτουdo you inquireζητεῖτεamongμετ’one anotherἀλλήλωνthatὅτιI saidεἶπον·A little [while]Μικρὸνandκαὶnotοὐyou do beholdθεωρεῖτέMeμε,andκαὶagainπάλινa little [while]μικρὸνandκαὶyou will seeὄψεσθέMeμε;
20TrulyἀμὴνtrulyἀμὴνI sayλέγωto youὑμῖνthatὅτιwill weepκλαύσετεandκαὶwill lamentθρηνήσετεyouὑμεῖς,ὁbutδὲthe worldκόσμοςwill rejoiceχαρήσεται·Youὑμεῖςwill be grievedλυπηθήσεσθε,butἀλλ’theἡgriefλύπηof youὑμῶνtoεἰςjoyχαρὰνwill turnγενήσεται.
21Theἡwomanγυνὴwhenὅτανshe is giving birthτίκτῃpainλύπηνhasἔχει,becauseὅτιhas comeἦλθενtheἡhourὥραof herαὐτῆς·whenὅτανhoweverδὲshe brings forthγεννήσῃtheτὸchildπαιδίον,no longerοὐκέτιshe remembersμνημονεύειtheτῆςtribulationθλίψεωςon account ofδιὰtheτὴνjoyχαρὰνthatὅτιhas been bornἐγεννήθηa manἄνθρωποςintoεἰςtheτὸνworldκόσμον.
22Alsoκαὶyouὑμεῖςthereforeοὖνnowνῦνindeedμὲνgriefλύπηνhaveἔχετε·againπάλινhoweverδὲI will seeὄψομαιyouὑμᾶς,andκαὶwill rejoiceχαρήσεταιyourὑμῶνἡheartκαρδία,andκαὶtheτὴνjoyχαρὰνof youὑμῶνno oneοὐδεὶςwill takeαἴρειfromἀφ’youὑμῶν.
23Andκαὶinἐνthatἐκείνῃτῇdayἡμέρᾳof Meἐμὲnotοὐκyou will askἐρωτήσετεnothingοὐδέν·TrulyἀμὴνtrulyἀμὴνI sayλέγωto youὑμῖν,ἄνwhateverτιyou may askαἰτήσητεtheτὸνFatherπατέραHe will giveδώσειyouὑμῖνinἐνtheτῷnameὀνόματίof Meμου.
24Untilἕωςnowἄρτιnotοὐκyou have askedᾐτήσατεnothingοὐδὲνinἐνtheτῷnameὀνόματίof Meμου·Askαἰτεῖτεandκαὶyou will receiveλήμψεσθε,thatἵναtheἡjoyχαρὰof youὑμῶνmay beᾖfullπεπληρωμένη.
25These thingsΤαῦταinἐνallegoriesπαροιμίαιςI have spokenλελάληκαto youὑμῖν·is comingἔρχεταιan hourὥραwhenὅτεno moreοὐκέτιinἐνallegoriesπαροιμίαιςI will speakλαλήσωto youὑμῖνbutἀλλὰplainlyπαρρησίᾳconcerningπερὶtheτοῦFatherπατρὸςI will reportἀπαγγελῶto youὑμῖν.
26Inἐνthatἐκείνῃτῇdayἡμέρᾳinἐνtheτῷnameὀνόματίof Meμουyou will askαἰτήσεσθε,andκαὶnotοὐI sayλέγωto youὑμῖνthatὅτιIἐγὼwill imploreἐρωτήσωtheτὸνFatherπατέραforπερὶyouὑμῶν·
27HimselfαὐτὸςforγὰρtheὁFatherπατὴρlovesφιλεῖyouὑμᾶς,becauseὅτιyouὑμεῖςMeἐμὲhave lovedπεφιλήκατεandκαὶhave believedπεπιστεύκατεthatὅτιIἐγὼfromπαρὰτοῦGodθεοῦcame forthἐξῆλθον.
28I came forthἐξῆλθονfromἐκtheτοῦFatherπατρὸςandκαὶhave comeἐλήλυθαintoεἰςtheτὸνworldκόσμον·againπάλινI leaveἀφίημιtheτὸνworldκόσμονandκαὶgoπορεύομαιtoπρὸςtheτὸνFatherπατέρα.
29SayΛέγουσινtheοἱdisciplesμαθηταὶof Himαὐτοῦ·BeholdἼδεnowνῦνinἐνopennessπαρρησίᾳYou speakλαλεῖς,andκαὶallegoryπαροιμίανnotοὐδεμίανspeakλέγεις.
30Nowνῦνwe knowοἴδαμενthatὅτιYou knowοἶδαςall thingsπάνταandκαὶnotοὐneedχρείανhaveἔχειςthatἵναanyoneτίςYouσεshould askἐρωτᾷ·Inἐνthisτούτῳwe believeπιστεύομενthatὅτιfromἀπὸGodθεοῦYou came forthἐξῆλθες.
31AnsweredἀπεκρίθηthemαὐτοῖςJesusἸησοῦς·NowἌρτιdo you believeπιστεύετε;
32Beholdἰδοὺis comingἔρχεταιan hourὥραandκαὶhas comeἐλήλυθενwhenἵναyou will be scatteredσκορπισθῆτεeachἕκαστοςtoεἰςtheτὰownἴδιαand Iκἀμὲaloneμόνονyou shall leaveἀφῆτε·yetκαὶnotοὐκI amεἰμὶaloneμόνος,forὅτιtheὁFatherπατὴρwithμετ’Meἐμοῦisἐστιν.
33These thingsταῦταI have spokenλελάληκαto youὑμῖνso thatἵναinἐνMeἐμοὶpeaceεἰρήνηνyou may haveἔχητε·Inἐνtheτῷworldκόσμῳtribulationθλῖψινyou haveἔχετε,Butἀλλὰtake courageθαρσεῖτε,Iἐγὼhave overcomeνενίκηκαtheτὸνworldκόσμον.
