1 Thessalonians 2
1You yourselvesΑὐτοὶforγὰρknowοἴδατε,brothersἀδελφοί,theτὴνcomingεἴσοδονof usἡμῶντὴνtoπρὸςyouὑμᾶςthatὅτιnotοὐin vainκενὴhas beenγέγονεν,
2butἀλλὰhaving previously sufferedπροπαθόντεςandκαὶhaving been mistreatedὑβρισθέντεςjust asκαθὼςyou knowοἴδατεinἐνPhilippiΦιλίπποιςwe had boldnessἐπαρρησιασάμεθαinἐνtheτῷGodθεῷof usἡμῶνto speakλαλῆσαιtoπρὸςyouὑμᾶςtheτὸgospelεὐαγγέλιοντοῦof Godθεοῦamidἐνmuchπολλῷconflictἀγῶνι.
3ἡForγὰρthe exhortationπαράκλησιςof usἡμῶν[is] notοὐκofἐκerrorπλάνηςnorοὐδὲofἐξimpurityἀκαθαρσίαςnorοὐδὲinἐνtrickeryδόλῳ,
4butἀλλὰjust asκαθὼςwe have been approvedδεδοκιμάσμεθαbyὑπὸτοῦGodθεοῦto be entrusted withπιστευθῆναιtheτὸgospelεὐαγγέλιονsoοὕτωςwe speakλαλοῦμεν,notοὐχasὡςmenἀνθρώποιςpleasingἀρέσκοντεςbutἀλλὰGodθεῷthe [One]τῷexaminingδοκιμάζοντιtheτὰςheartsκαρδίαςof usἡμῶν.
5Neverοὔτεforγάρat any timeποτεwithἐνwordλόγῳof flatteryκολακείαςwere weἐγενήθημεν,just asκαθὼςyou knowοἴδατε,norοὔτεwithἐνa pretextπροφάσειfor greedπλεονεξίας,God [is]θεὸςwitnessμάρτυς,
6norοὔτεseekingζητοῦντεςfromἐξmenἀνθρώπωνgloryδόξαν,norοὔτεfromἀφ’youὑμῶνnorοὔτεfromἀπ’othersἄλλων,
7[though] having authorityδυνάμενοιwithἐνweightβάρειto beεἶναιasὡςChrist’sΧριστοῦapostlesἀπόστολοι·Butἀλλὰwe wereἐγενήθημενgentleἤπιοιinἐν[the] midstμέσῳof youὑμῶν,asὡςifἐὰνa nursing motherτροφὸςwould cherishθάλπῃτὰher ownἑαυτῆςchildrenτέκνα·
8Soοὕτωςyearning overὁμειρόμενοιyouὑμῶνwe were pleasedεὐδοκοῦμενto have impartedμεταδοῦναιto youὑμῖνnotοὐonlyμόνονtheτὸgospelεὐαγγέλιοντοῦof Godθεοῦbutἀλλὰalsoκαὶourτὰςownἑαυτῶνlivesψυχάς,becauseδιότιbelovedἀγαπητοὶto usἡμῖνyou have becomeἐγενήθητε.
9You rememberΜνημονεύετεforγάρ,brothersἀδελφοί,theτὸνlaborκόπονof usἡμῶνandκαὶτὸνhardshipμόχθον·Nightνυκτὸςandκαὶdayἡμέραςworkingἐργαζόμενοιin orderπρὸςτὸnotμὴto burdenἐπιβαρῆσαίanyoneτιναof youὑμῶνwe proclaimedἐκηρύξαμενtoεἰςyouὑμᾶςtheτὸgospelεὐαγγέλιοντοῦof Godθεοῦ.
10You [are]ὑμεῖςwitnessesμάρτυρεςandκαὶὁGodθεός,howὡςholilyὁσίωςandκαὶrighteouslyδικαίωςandκαὶblamelesslyἀμέμπτωςtoward youὑμῖνthoseτοῖςbelievingπιστεύουσινwe wereἐγενήθημεν,
11just asκαθάπερyou knowοἴδατεhowὡςoneἕναeachἕκαστονof youὑμῶνasὡςa fatherπατὴρchildrenτέκναhis ownἑαυτοῦ
12exhortingπαρακαλοῦντεςyouὑμᾶςandκαὶcomfortingπαραμυθούμενοιandκαὶchargingμαρτυρόμενοι,untoεἰςτὸto walkπεριπατεῖνyouὑμᾶςworthilyἀξίωςτοῦof Godθεοῦwhoτοῦcallsκαλοῦντοςyouὑμᾶςintoεἰςtheτὴνof Himselfἑαυτοῦkingdomβασιλείανandκαὶgloryδόξαν.
13AndΚαὶbecause ofδιὰthisτοῦτοalsoκαὶweἡμεῖςgive thanksεὐχαριστοῦμεντῷto Godθεῷunceasinglyἀδιαλείπτως,thatὅτιhaving receivedπαραλαβόντες[the] wordλόγον[by your] hearingἀκοῆςfromπαρ’usἡμῶντοῦof Godθεοῦyou acceptedἐδέξασθεnotοὐ[the] wordλόγονof menἀνθρώπωνbutἀλλὰeven asκαθὼςtrulyἀληθῶςit isἐστὶν[the] wordλόγονof Godθεοῦ,whichὃςalsoκαὶworksἐνεργεῖταιinἐνyouὑμῖνwhoτοῖςbelieveπιστεύουσιν.
14Youὑμεῖςforγὰρimitatorsμιμηταὶbecameἐγενήθητε,brothersἀδελφοί,of theτῶνchurchesἐκκλησιῶντοῦof GodθεοῦτῶνbeingοὐσῶνinἐντῇJudeaἸουδαίᾳinἐνChristΧριστῷJesusἸησοῦ,Forὅτιthe sameτὰas themαὐτὰsufferedἐπάθετεalsoκαὶyouὑμεῖςfromὑπὸtheτῶνownἰδίωνcountrymenσυμφυλετῶνasκαθὼςalso [did]καὶtheyαὐτοὶfromὑπὸtheτῶνJewsἸουδαίων
15whoτῶνbothκαὶtheτὸνLordκύριονhaving killedἀποκτεινάντωνJesusἸησοῦνandκαὶtheir ownτοὺςprophetsπροφήταςandκαὶusἡμᾶςhaving driven outἐκδιωξάντων,andκαὶGodθεῷnotμὴpleasingἀρεσκόντων,andκαὶallπᾶσινmenἀνθρώποις[who are] set againstἐναντίων,
16hinderingκωλυόντωνusἡμᾶςto theτοῖςGentilesἔθνεσινto speakλαλῆσαιthatἵναthey might be savedσωθῶσιν,so asεἰςτὸto fill upἀναπληρῶσαιtheirαὐτῶντὰςsinsἁμαρτίαςalwaysπάντοτε.Has comeἔφθασενnowδὲuponἐπ’themαὐτοὺςtheἡwrathὀργὴto theεἰςutmostτέλος.
17WeἩμεῖςhoweverδέ,brothersἀδελφοί,having been bereavedἀπορφανισθέντεςofἀφ’youὑμῶνforπρὸς[the] timeκαιρὸνof an hourὥρας,in faceπροσώπῳnotοὐin heartκαρδίᾳ,more abundantlyπερισσοτέρωςwere eagerἐσπουδάσαμενtheτὸfaceπρόσωπονof youὑμῶνto seeἰδεῖνwithἐνgreatπολλῇdesireἐπιθυμίᾳ.
18Thereforeδιότιwe wantedἠθελήσαμενto comeἐλθεῖνtoπρὸςyouὑμᾶς,IἐγὼindeedμὲνPaulΠαῦλοςbothκαὶonceἅπαξandκαὶtwiceδίς,andκαὶhinderedἐνέκοψενusἡμᾶςὁSatanΣατανᾶς.
19Who [is]τίςforγὰρourἡμῶνhopeἐλπὶςorἢjoyχαρὰorἢcrownστέφανοςof boastingκαυχήσεως—Orἢ[are] notοὐχὶevenκαὶyouὑμεῖς—beforeἔμπροσθενtheτοῦLordκυρίουof usἡμῶνJesusἸησοῦatἐντῇHisαὐτοῦcomingπαρουσίᾳ;
20Youὑμεῖςforγάρareἐστεtheἡgloryδόξαof usἡμῶνandκαὶἡjoyχαρά.
