Galatians 4
1I sayΛέγωnowδέ,forἐφ’as long asὅσονtimeχρόνονtheὁheirκληρονόμοςa childνήπιόςisἐστιν,notοὐδὲνhe differsδιαφέρειfrom a slaveδούλου[though] ownerκύριοςof everythingπάντωνbeingὤν,
2Insteadἀλλὰunderὑπὸguardiansἐπιτρόπουςhe isἐστὶandκαὶtrusteesοἰκονόμουςuntilἄχριtheτῆςtime appointedπροθεσμίαςby [his]τοῦfatherπατρός.
3Soοὕτωςalsoκαὶweἡμεῖς,whenὅτεwe wereἦμενchildrenνήπιοι,underὑπὸtheτὰbasic principlesστοιχεῖαof theτοῦworldκόσμουwereἤμεθαheld in bondageδεδουλωμένοι·
4Whenὅτεhoweverδὲhad comeἦλθενtheτὸfullnessπλήρωμαof theτοῦtimeχρόνου,sent forthἐξαπέστειλενὁGodθεὸςtheτὸνSonυἱὸνof himαὐτοῦ,having been bornγενόμενονofἐκa womanγυναικός,having been bornγενόμενονunderὑπὸ[the] Lawνόμον,
5thatἵναthoseτοὺςunderὑπὸ[the] LawνόμονHe might redeemἐξαγοράσῃ,so thatἵναtheτὴνdivine adoption as sonsυἱοθεσίανwe might receiveἀπολάβωμεν.
6Becauseὅτιnowδέyou areἐστεsonsυἱοί,sent forthἐξαπέστειλενὁGodθεὸςtheτὸSpiritπνεῦμαof theτοῦSonυἱοῦof Himαὐτοῦintoεἰςtheτὰςheartsκαρδίαςof usἡμῶν,crying outκρᾶζον·AbbaΑββαὁFatherπατήρ.
7Soὥστεno longerοὐκέτιyou areεἶa slaveδοῦλοςbutἀλλὰa sonυἱός·ifεἰnowδὲa sonυἱός,alsoκαὶan heirκληρονόμοςthroughδιὰGodθεοῦ.
8ButἈλλὰat that timeτότεindeedμὲνnotοὐκknowingεἰδότεςGodθεὸνyou were enslavedἐδουλεύσατεto thoseτοῖςby natureφύσειnotμὴbeingοὖσιgodsθεοῖς·
9nowνῦνhoweverδὲhaving knownγνόντεςGodθεόν,ratherμᾶλλονhoweverδὲhaving been knownγνωσθέντεςbyὑπὸGodθεοῦ,howπῶςdo you turnἐπιστρέφετεagainπάλινtoἐπὶtheτὰweakἀσθενῆandκαὶdestituteπτωχὰprinciplesστοιχεῖα,to whichοἷςagainπάλινanewἄνωθενenslavedδουλεύεινyou desireθέλετε;
10Daysἡμέραςyou observeπαρατηρεῖσθεandκαὶmonthsμῆναςandκαὶseasonsκαιροὺςandκαὶyearsἐνιαυτούς.
11I fearφοβοῦμαιfor youὑμᾶςlestμήperhapsπωςin vainεἰκῇI have toiledκεκοπίακαforεἰςyouὑμᾶς.
12BecomeΓίνεσθεasὡςI [am]ἐγώ,becauseὅτιI also [have become]κἀγὼasὡςyouὑμεῖς,brothersἀδελφοί,I imploreδέομαιyouὑμῶν.In nothingοὐδένmeμεhave You wrongedἠδικήσατε·
13You knowοἴδατεnowδὲthatὅτιinδι’weaknessἀσθένειανof theτῆςfleshσαρκὸςI proclaimed the gospelεὐηγγελισάμηνto youὑμῖνat theτὸfirstπρότερον,
14andκαὶtheτὸνtestπειρασμὸνof youὑμῶνinἐνtheτῇfleshσαρκίof meμουnotοὐκyou did despise [me]ἐξουθενήσατεnorοὐδὲreject [me] with contemptἐξεπτύσατε,butἀλλὰasὡςan angelἄγγελονof Godθεοῦyou receivedἐδέξασθέmeμε,even asὡςChristΧριστὸνJesusἸησοῦν.
15Whatποῦthenοὖνtheὁblessednessμακαρισμὸςof youὑμῶν;I bear witnessμαρτυρῶforγὰρto youὑμῖνthatὅτιifεἰpossibleδυνατὸνtheτοὺςeyesὀφθαλμοὺςof youὑμῶνhaving gouged outἐξορύξαντεςyou would have given [them]ἐδώκατέto meμοι.
16Soὥστεenemyἐχθρὸςof youὑμῶνhave I becomeγέγοναspeaking truthἀληθεύωνto youὑμῖν;
17They are zealous afterζηλοῦσινyouὑμᾶςnotοὐrightlyκαλῶς,butἀλλὰto excludeἐκκλεῖσαιyou [from us]ὑμᾶςThey desireθέλουσιν,so thatἵναthemαὐτοὺςyou might be zealous afterζηλοῦτε.
18Good [it is]καλὸνnowδὲto be zealousζηλοῦσθαιinἐνa right [thing]καλῷat all timesπάντοτε,andκαὶnotμὴonlyμόνονinἐντῷbeing presentπαρεῖναίmyμεwithπρὸςyouὑμᾶς,
19Childrenτέκναof meμου,of whomοὓςagainπάλινI travailὠδίνωuntilμέχριςthatοὗshall have been formedμορφωθῇChristΧριστὸςinἐνyouὑμῖν·
20I was wishingἤθελονindeedδὲto be presentπαρεῖναιwithπρὸςyouὑμᾶςpresentlyἄρτι,andκαὶto changeἀλλάξαιtheτὴνtoneφωνήνof meμου,becauseὅτιI am perplexedἀποροῦμαιas toἐνyouὑμῖν.
21TellΛέγετέmeμοι,thoseοἱunderὑπὸ[the] Lawνόμονwishingθέλοντεςto beεἶναι,theτὸνLawνόμονnotοὐκyou do listen toἀκούετε;
22It has been writtenγέγραπταιforγὰρthatὅτιAbrahamἈβραὰμtwoδύοsonsυἱοὺςhadἔσχεν,oneἕναofἐκtheτῆςslave womanπαιδίσκηςandκαὶoneἕναofἐκtheτῆςfreeἐλευθέρας·
23Butἀλλ’the [one]ὁindeedμὲνofἐκtheτῆςslave womanπαιδίσκηςaccording toκατὰfleshσάρκαhas been bornγεγέννηται,the [one]ὁbutδὲofἐκtheτῆςfreeἐλευθέραςthroughδι’promiseἐπαγγελίας.
24which thingsἅτινάareἐστινallegorizedἀλληγορούμενα·theseαὗταιforγάρareεἰσινtwoδύοcovenantsδιαθῆκαι,oneμίαindeedμὲνfromἀπὸMountὄρουςSinaiΣινᾶ,untoεἰςslaveryδουλείανbegettingγεννῶσα,whichἥτιςisἐστὶνHagarἉγάρ,
25τὸAndδὲHagarἉγὰρSinaiΣινᾶMountὄροςisἐστὶνinἐντῇArabiaἈραβίᾳ,she correspondsσυστοιχεῖnowδὲto theτῇpresentνῦνJerusalemἸερουσαλήμ,she is in slaveryδουλεύειforγὰρwithμετὰtheτῶνchildrenτέκνωνof herαὐτῆς·
26ἡButδὲthe aboveἄνωJerusalemἸερουσαλὴμfreeἐλευθέραisἐστίν,whoἥτιςisἐστὶνmotherμήτηρof usἡμῶν·
27It has been writtenγέγραπταιforγάρ·RejoiceΕὐφράνθητι,O barren womanστεῖραthe [one]ἡnotοὐbearingτίκτουσα,break forthῥῆξονandκαὶcall aloudβόησον,the [one]ἡnotοὐκtravailingὠδίνουσα·becauseὅτιmanyπολλὰ[are] theτὰchildrenτέκναof theτῆςdesolate womanἐρήμουmoreμᾶλλονthanἢof herτῆςhavingἐχούσηςtheτὸνhusbandἄνδρα.
28Youὑμεῖςnowδέ,brothersἀδελφοί,likeκατὰIsaacἸσαὰκof promiseἐπαγγελίαςchildrenτέκναareἐστέ·
29Butἀλλ’just asὥσπερat that timeτότεthe [one]ὁaccording toκατὰfleshσάρκαhaving been bornγεννηθεὶςwas persecutingἐδίωκεthe [one born]τὸνaccording toκατὰSpiritπνεῦμα,soοὕτωςalsoκαὶ[it is] nowνῦν.
30ButἀλλὰwhatτίsaysλέγειtheἡScriptureγραφή;Cast outἜκβαλεtheτὴνslave womanπαιδίσκηνandκαὶtheτὸνsonυἱὸνof herαὐτῆς,noοὐforγὰρnotμὴwill inheritκληρονομήσειtheὁsonυἱὸςof theτῆςslave womanπαιδίσκηςalong withμετὰtheτοῦsonυἱοῦof theτῆςfreeἐλευθέρας.
31So thenδιό,brothersἀδελφοί,notοὐκwe areἐσμὲνof [the] slave womanπαιδίσκηςchildrenτέκναbutἀλλὰof theτῆςfreeἐλευθέρας.
