1 Thessalonians 4

1FinallyΛοιπὸνthenοὖν,brothersἀδελφοί,we imploreἐρωτῶμενyouὑμᾶςandκαὶexhortπαρακαλοῦμενinἐν[the] LordκυρίῳJesusἸησοῦ,thatἵναjust asκαθὼςyou have receivedπαρελάβετεfromπαρ’usἡμῶντὸin what mannerπῶςit behoovesδεῖyouὑμᾶςto walkπεριπατεῖνandκαὶto pleaseἀρέσκεινGodθεῷ,just asκαθὼςevenκαὶyou walk [now]περιπατεῖτε,soἵναyou should aboundπερισσεύητεmoreμᾶλλον.

2You knowοἴδατεforγὰρwhatτίναςinstructionsπαραγγελίαςwe gaveἐδώκαμενyouὑμῖνthroughδιὰtheτοῦLordκυρίουJesusἸησοῦ.

3Thisτοῦτοforγάρisἐστιν[the] willθέληματοῦof Godθεοῦ,theὁsanctificationἁγιασμὸςof youὑμῶν,To abstainἀπέχεσθαιyou [are]ὑμᾶςfromἀπὸτῆςsexual immoralityπορνείας,

4to knowεἰδέναιeachἕκαστονof you [how]ὑμῶνtheτὸof himselfἑαυτοῦvesselσκεῦοςto controlκτᾶσθαιinἐνholinessἁγιασμῷandκαὶhonorτιμῇ,

5notμὴinἐν[the] passionπάθειof lustἐπιθυμίαςasκαθάπερalsoκαὶtheτὰGentilesἔθνητὰnotμὴknowingεἰδότατὸνGodθεόν,

6τὸnotμὴto go beyondὑπερβαίνεινandκαὶto overreachπλεονεκτεῖνinἐνtheτῷmatterπράγματιtheτὸνbrotherἀδελφὸνof himαὐτοῦ,becauseδιότιavenging [is]ἔκδικος[the] Lordκύριοςconcerningπερὶallπάντωνthese thingsτούτων,just asκαθὼςalsoκαὶwe told beforeπροείπαμενyouὑμῖνandκαὶthoroughly warnedδιεμαρτυράμεθα.

7Notοὐforγὰρhas calledἐκάλεσενusἡμᾶςὁGodθεὸςtoἐπὶimpurityἀκαθαρσίᾳbutἀλλ’intoἐνholinessἁγιασμῷ.

8So thenτοιγαροῦνthe [one]ὁrejecting [this]ἀθετῶνnotοὐκmanἄνθρωπονdisregardsἀθετεῖbutἀλλὰτὸνGodθεὸνthe [One]τὸνalsoκαὶgivingδιδόνταtheτὸSpiritπνεῦμαof HimαὐτοῦτὸHolyἅγιονtoεἰςyouὑμᾶς.

9ConcerningΠερὶnowδὲτῆςbrotherly loveφιλαδελφίαςnoοὐneedχρείανyou have [for me]ἔχετεto writeγράφεινto youὑμῖν,yourselvesαὐτοὶforγὰρyouὑμεῖςtaught by Godθεοδίδακτοίareἐστεin orderεἰςτὸto loveἀγαπᾶνone anotherἀλλήλους·

10Andκαὶforγὰρyou are doingποιεῖτεthisαὐτὸtowardεἰςallπάνταςtheτοὺςbrothersἀδελφοὺςtheτοὺςinἐνallὅλῃτῇMacedoniaΜακεδονίᾳ.We exhortπαρακαλοῦμενhoweverδὲyouὑμᾶς,brothersἀδελφοί,to aboundπερισσεύεινmore and moreμᾶλλον,

11andκαὶto strive earnestlyφιλοτιμεῖσθαιto live quietlyἡσυχάζεινandκαὶto attend toπράσσεινtheτὰownἴδιαandκαὶto work withἐργάζεσθαιtheταῖςhandsχερσὶνof youὑμῶν,just asκαθὼςyouὑμῖνwe commandedπαρηγγείλαμεν,

12so thatἵναyou may walkπεριπατῆτεproperlyεὐσχημόνωςtowardπρὸςthoseτοὺςoutsideἔξωandκαὶof no oneμηδενὸςneedχρείανmay haveἔχητε.

13NotΟὐwe do wantθέλομενbutδὲyouὑμᾶςto be ignorantἀγνοεῖν,brothersἀδελφοί,concerningπερὶthoseτῶνhaving fallen asleepκοιμωμένων,so thatἵναnotμὴyou should be grievedλυπῆσθεjust asκαθὼςalsoκαὶtheοἱrestλοιποὶthoseοἱnotμὴhavingἔχοντεςhopeἐλπίδα.

14Ifεἰforγὰρwe believeπιστεύομενthatὅτιJesusἸησοῦςdiedἀπέθανενandκαὶrose againἀνέστη,soοὕτωςalsoκαὶὁGodθεὸςthoseτοὺςhaving fallen asleepκοιμηθένταςthroughδιὰτοῦJesusἸησοῦwill bringἄξειwithσὺνHimαὐτῷ.

15Thisτοῦτοforγὰρto youὑμῖνwe declareλέγομενinἐν[the] wordλόγῳof [the] Lordκυρίου,thatὅτιweἡμεῖςtheοἱlivingζῶντεςοἱremainingπεριλειπόμενοιuntoεἰςtheτὴνcomingπαρουσίανof theτοῦLordκυρίουnoοὐnotμὴshall precedeφθάσωμενthoseτοὺςhaving fallen asleepκοιμηθέντας·

16becauseὅτιHimselfαὐτὸςtheὁLordκύριοςwithἐνa loud commandκελεύσματι,withἐνthe voiceφωνῇof an archangelἀρχαγγέλουandκαὶwithἐν[the] trumpetσάλπιγγιof Godθεοῦ,will descendκαταβήσεταιfromἀπ’heavenοὐρανοῦ,andκαὶtheοἱdeadνεκροὶinἐνChristΧριστῷwill riseἀναστήσονταιfirstπρῶτον,

17Thenἔπειταweἡμεῖςtheοἱlivingζῶντεςοἱremainingπεριλειπόμενοιtogetherἅμαwithσὺνthemαὐτοῖςwill be caught awayἁρπαγησόμεθαinἐν[the] cloudsνεφέλαιςforεἰς[the] meetingἀπάντησινof theτοῦLordκυρίουinεἰς[the] airἀέρα·andκαὶsoοὕτωςalwaysπάντοτεwithσὺν[the] Lordκυρίῳwe will beἐσόμεθα.

18Thereforeὥστεencourageπαρακαλεῖτεone anotherἀλλήλουςwithἐνtheτοῖςwordsλόγοιςtheseτούτοις.
