1 Corinthians 7
1ConcerningΠερὶnowδὲthe things about whichὧνyou wroteἐγράψατε,[It is] goodκαλὸνfor a manἀνθρώπῳa womanγυναικὸςnotμὴto touchἅπτεσθαι·
2Because ofδιὰhoweverδὲτὰςsexual immoralityπορνείαςeach manἕκαστοςthe [own]τὴνof himἑαυτοῦwifeγυναῖκαlet haveἐχέτω,andκαὶeach [woman]ἑκάστηtheτὸνownἴδιονhusbandἄνδραlet haveἐχέτω.
3To theτῇwifeγυναικὶtheὁhusbandἀνὴρtheτὴνdutyὀφειλὴνlet fulfillἀποδιδότω,likewiseὁμοίωςnowδὲalsoκαὶtheἡwifeγυνὴto theτῷhusbandἀνδρί.
4Theἡwifeγυνὴtheτοῦownἰδίουbodyσώματοςnotοὐκhas authority overἐξουσιάζειbutἀλλὰtheὁhusbandἀνήρ·likewiseὁμοίωςnowδὲalsoκαὶtheὁhusbandἀνὴρof theτοῦownἰδίουbodyσώματοςnotοὐκhas authority overἐξουσιάζειbutἀλλὰtheἡwifeγυνή.
5Notμὴdepriveἀποστερεῖτεone anotherἀλλήλους,ifεἰnotμήτιἂνbyἐκmutual agreementσυμφώνουforπρὸςa timeκαιρὸνthatἵναyou might be at leisureσχολάσητετῇfor prayerπροσευχῇandκαὶagainπάλινtogetherἐπὶtheτὸsameαὐτὸbeἦτε,so thatἵναnotμὴmay temptπειράζῃyouὑμᾶςὁSatanΣατανᾶςthroughδιὰtheτὴνlack of self-controlἀκρασίανof youὑμῶν.
6ThisτοῦτοnowδὲI sayλέγωby way ofκατὰconcessionσυγγνώμην,notοὐby way ofκατ’commandἐπιταγήν.
7I wishθέλωnowδὲallπάνταςmenἀνθρώπουςto beεἶναιlikeὡςevenκαὶmyselfἐμαυτόν·Butἀλλὰeachἕκαστοςhis ownἴδιονhasἔχειgiftχάρισμαfromἐκGodθεοῦ,one [has]ὁindeedμὲνthisοὕτως,oneὁhoweverδὲthatοὕτως.
8I sayΛέγωnowδὲto theτοῖςunmarriedἀγάμοιςandκαὶto theταῖςwidowsχήραις,[it is] goodκαλὸνfor themαὐτοῖςifἐὰνthey should remainμείνωσινasὡςeven Iκἀγώ·
9Ifεἰhoweverδὲnotοὐκthey have self-controlἐγκρατεύονται,let them marryγαμησάτωσαν,betterκρεῖττονforγάρit isἐστινmarryγαμῆσαιthanἢto burn with passionπυροῦσθαι.
10To thoseΤοῖςnowδὲhaving marriedγεγαμηκόσινI give this chargeπαραγγέλλω,notοὐκIἐγὼbutἀλλὰtheὁLordκύριος,A wifeγυναῖκαfromἀπὸa husbandἀνδρὸςnotμὴis to be separatedχωρισθῆναι—
11ifἐὰνhoweverδὲindeedκαὶshe is separatedχωρισθῇ,let her remainμενέτωunmarriedἄγαμοςorἢto theτῷhusbandἀνδρὶbe reconciledκαταλλαγήτω—andκαὶa husbandἄνδραa wifeγυναῖκαnotμὴis to send awayἀφιέναι.
12To theΤοῖςnowδὲrestλοιποῖςI sayλέγωIἐγώ,notοὐχtheὁLordκύριος·Ifεἴanyτιςbrotherἀδελφὸςa wifeγυναῖκαhasἔχειunbelievingἄπιστον,andκαὶsheαὕτηconsentsσυνευδοκεῖto dwellοἰκεῖνwithμετ’himαὐτοῦ,notμὴlet him divorceἀφιέτωherαὐτήν·
13Andκαὶa womanγυνὴifεἴanyτιςhasἔχειa husbandἄνδραunbelievingἄπιστον,andκαὶheοὗτοςconsentsσυνευδοκεῖto dwellοἰκεῖνwithμετ’herαὐτῆς,notμὴlet her divorceἀφιέτωtheτὸνhusbandἄνδρα.
14Is sanctifiedἡγίασταιforγὰρtheὁhusbandἀνὴρὁunbelievingἄπιστοςinἐνtheτῇwifeγυναικί,andκαὶis sanctifiedἡγίασταιtheἡwifeγυνὴἡunbelievingἄπιστοςinἐνtheτῷhusbandἀδελφῷ·elseἐπεὶthenἄραtheτὰchildrenτέκναof youὑμῶνuncleanἀκάθαρτάareἐστιν,nowνῦνhoweverδὲholyἅγιάthey areἐστιν.
15Ifεἰhoweverδὲtheὁunbelieverἄπιστοςseparates himselfχωρίζεται,let him separate himselfχωριζέσθω·notοὐis under bondageδεδούλωταιtheὁbrotherἀδελφὸςorἢtheἡsisterἀδελφὴinἐντοῖςsuch [cases]τοιούτοις,Intoἐνhoweverδὲpeaceεἰρήνῃhas calledκέκληκενusἡμᾶςὁGodθεός.
16Howτίforγὰρknow youοἶδας,wifeγύναι,ifεἰtheτὸνhusbandἄνδραyou will saveσώσεις;Orἢhowτίknow youοἶδας,husbandἄνερ,ifεἰtheτὴνwifeγυναῖκαyou will saveσώσεις;
17IfΕἰnotμὴto eachἑκάστῳasὡςassignedἐμέρισενtheὁLordκύριος,to eachἕκαστονasὡςhas calledκέκληκενὁGodθεός,soοὕτωςlet him walkπεριπατείτω·AndκαὶthusοὕτωςinἐνtheταῖςchurchesἐκκλησίαιςallπάσαιςI prescribeδιατάσσομαι.
18Having been circumcisedπεριτετμημένοςanyoneτιςwas calledἐκλήθη;Notμὴlet him be uncircumcisedἐπισπάσθω·Inἐνuncircumcisionἀκροβυστίᾳwas calledκέκληταίanyoneτις;Notμὴlet Him be circumcisedπεριτεμνέσθω.
19ἡCircumcisionπεριτομὴnothingοὐδένisἐστιν,andκαὶἡuncircumcisionἀκροβυστίαnothingοὐδένisἐστιν,butἀλλὰkeepingτήρησις[the] commandmentsἐντολῶνof Godθεοῦ.
20Eachἕκαστοςinἐνtheτῇcallingκλήσειin whichᾗhe has been calledἐκλήθηinἐνthisταύτῃlet him abideμενέτω.
21Slave [being]Δοῦλοςwere you calledἐκλήθης;notμήto youσοιlet it be a careμελέτω·butἀλλ’ifεἰalsoκαὶyou are ableδύνασαιfreeἐλεύθεροςto becomeγενέσθαι,ratherμᾶλλονtake advantageχρῆσαι.
22The [one]ὁforγὰρinἐν[the] Lordκυρίῳhaving been calledκληθεὶς[being] a slaveδοῦλοςa freedmanἀπελεύθεροςof [the] Lordκυρίουisἐστίν·likewiseὁμοίωςthe [one]ὁfreeἐλεύθεροςhaving been calledκληθεὶςa slaveδοῦλόςisἐστινof ChristΧριστοῦ.
23With a priceτιμῆςyou were boughtἠγοράσθητε·notμὴbecomeγίνεσθεslavesδοῦλοιof menἀνθρώπων.
24Eachἕκαστοςwhereinἐνthatᾧhe was calledἐκλήθη,brothersἀδελφοί,inἐνthatτούτῳlet him abideμενέτωwithπαρὰGodθεῷ.
25ConcerningΠερὶnowδὲtheτῶνvirginsπαρθένωνa commandmentἐπιταγὴνof [the] LordκυρίουnotοὐκI haveἔχω,judgmentγνώμηνhoweverδὲI giveδίδωμιasὡςhaving received mercyἠλεημένοςfromὑπὸ[the] Lordκυρίουtrustworthyπιστὸςto beεἶναι.
26I thinkνομίζωthereforeοὖνthisτοῦτοgoodκαλὸνisὑπάρχεινbecause ofδιὰtheτὴνpresentἐνεστῶσανnecessityἀνάγκην,thatὅτι[it is] goodκαλὸνfor a manἀνθρώπῳτὸin the same mannerοὕτωςto remainεἶναι.
27Have you been boundδέδεσαιto a wifeγυναικί;Notμὴseekζήτειto be loosedλύσιν·Have you been loosedλέλυσαιfromἀπὸa wifeγυναικός;Notμὴseekζήτειa wifeγυναῖκα·
28Ifἐὰνhoweverδὲalsoκαὶyou shall have marriedγαμήσῃς,notοὐχyou did sinἥμαρτες.andκαὶifἐὰνshall have marriedγήμῃtheἡvirginπαρθένος,notοὐχshe did sinἥμαρτεν.tribulationθλῖψινhoweverδὲin theτῇfleshσαρκὶwill haveἕξουσινοἱsuchτοιοῦτοι,Iἐγὼnowδὲyouὑμῶνam sparingφείδομαι.
29ThisτοῦτοnowδέI sayφημι,brothersἀδελφοί,Theὁseasonκαιρὸςshortenedσυνεσταλμένοςisἐστίν·τὸFrom now onλοιπὸνthatἵναbothκαὶthoseοἱhavingἔχοντεςwivesγυναῖκαςasὡςnoneμὴhavingἔχοντεςshould beὦσιν,
30andκαὶthoseοἱweepingκλαίοντεςasὡςnotμὴweepingκλαίοντες,andκαὶthoseοἱrejoicingχαίροντεςasὡςnotμὴrejoicingχαίροντες,andκαὶthoseοἱbuyingἀγοράζοντεςasὡςnotμὴpossessingκατέχοντες,
31andκαὶthoseοἱusingχρώμενοιtheτὸνworldκόσμονasὡςnotμὴusing [it] as their ownκαταχρώμενοι·Is passing awayπαράγειforγὰρtheτὸpresent formσχῆμαof theτοῦworldκόσμουthisτούτου.
32I desireΘέλωnowδὲyouὑμᾶςwithout concernἀμερίμνουςto beεἶναι.Theὁunmarried manἄγαμοςcares forμεριμνᾷthe thingsτὰof theτοῦLordκυρίου,howπῶςhe should pleaseἀρέσῃtheτῷLordκυρίῳ·
33the [one]ὁhoweverδὲhaving been marriedγαμήσαςcares forμεριμνᾷthe thingsτὰof theτοῦworldκόσμου,howπῶςhe should pleaseἀρέσῃtheτῇwifeγυναικί,
34andκαὶis dividedμεμέρισται.Andκαὶtheἡwomanγυνὴἡunmarriedἄγαμοςandκαὶἡvirginπαρθένοςcares forμεριμνᾷthe thingsτὰof theτοῦLordκυρίου,thatἵναshe should beᾖholyἁγίαbothκαὶinτῷbodyσώματιandκαὶinτῷspiritπνεύματι·the [one]ἡhoweverδὲhaving been marriedγαμήσασαcares forμεριμνᾷthe thingsτὰof theτοῦworldκόσμου,howπῶςshe should pleaseἀρέσῃtheτῷhusbandἀνδρί.
35Thisτοῦτοnowδὲforπρὸςtheτὸof youὑμῶνyourselvesαὐτῶνbenefitσύμφορονI sayλέγω,notοὐχthatἵναa restraintβρόχονyouὑμῖνI might place uponἐπιβάλω,butἀλλὰforπρὸςwhatτὸ[is] seemlyεὔσχημονandκαὶdevotedεὐπάρεδρονto theτῷLordκυρίῳwithout distractionἀπερισπάστως.
36IfΕἰhoweverδέanyoneτιςto be behaving improperlyἀσχημονεῖνtoἐπὶtheτὴνvirginπαρθένονof himαὐτοῦsupposesνομίζειifἐὰνshe isᾖbeyond youthὑπέρακμος,andκαὶsoοὕτωςit oughtὀφείλειto beγίνεσθαι,whatὃhe willsθέλειlet him doποιείτω·notοὐχhe does sinἁμαρτάνει·let them marryγαμείτωσαν.
37He whoὃςhoweverδὲstandsἕστηκενinἐνtheτῇheartκαρδίᾳof himαὐτοῦfirmἑδραῖοςnotμὴhavingἔχωνnecessityἀνάγκην,authorityἐξουσίανhoweverδὲhavingἔχειoverπερὶtheτοῦownἰδίουwillθελήματος,andκαὶthisτοῦτοhas judgedκέκρικενinἐνtheτῇownἰδίᾳheartκαρδίᾳ,to keepτηρεῖντὴνtheἑαυτοῦvirginπαρθένον,wellκαλῶςhe will doποιήσει·
38So thenὥστεalsoκαὶthe [one]ὁmarryingγαμίζωνtheτὴνvirginπαρθένονownἑαυτοῦwellκαλῶςdoesποιεῖ,andκαὶthe [one]ὁnotμὴmarryingγαμίζωνbetterκρεῖσσονwill doποιήσει.
39A wifeΓυνὴis boundδέδεταιforἐφ’as long asὅσονtimeχρόνονmay liveζῇtheὁhusbandἀνὴρof herαὐτῆς·ifἐὰνhoweverδὲshall have diedκοιμηθῇtheὁhusbandἀνήρ,freeἐλευθέραshe isἐστὶνto whomᾧshe willsθέλειto be marriedγαμηθῆναι,onlyμόνονinἐν[the] Lordκυρίῳ·
40More blessedμακαριωτέραhoweverδέshe isἐστινifἐὰνin the same mannerοὕτωςshe should remainμείνῃ,according toκατὰτὴνmyἐμὴνjudgmentγνώμην,I thinkδοκῶnowδὲmyself alsoκἀγὼ[the] Spiritπνεῦμαof Godθεοῦto haveἔχειν.
